| ‘Tis the season for spooky spectacles and fantasy favorites! Legends & Lanterns®: A "Spirited" Journey Through Halloween History returns for its 10th season this October (the 18-19, and 24-26). Here are five can’t-miss attractions to add to your itinerary of the region’s top Halloween festival.
1. The Concerts
Enjoy concerts by The Angry Villagers as they break into song while they work to rid Main Street of ghosts, The Ghouling Stones, St. Charles’ hottest “rock” stars, and Dr. Schnabel, the famous fiddling plague doctor. Think you have what it takes? Sing karaoke with The Phantom of the Opera!
2. Writers’ Block
Take a crash course through the history of horror literature at Ghost Writing 101 every festival day at 2 PM. The Brothers Grimm join Poe and Shelley as they irreverently skewer the classics during a zany, fast-paced show.
3. Plaza Del Dia de Los Muertos
Join La Catrina at Berthold Square to celebrate the heritage and customs of the Day of the Dead. Get your face painted like a sugar skull and honor a loved one by adding a memorial marigold to the ofrenda.
4. Visit the KATY Depot
Watch clips of classic monster and Sci-Fi movies, enjoy Halloween tunes from the Warbling Gourds, and explore Victorian mourning customs with Evangeline Mortimer at the SPOOK-tacular exhibits in the KATY Depot.
5. Pumpkin Glow
Visit Historic Main Street for Pumpkin Glow the weekend before Halloween, where the street is illuminated with hundreds of eerily glowing pumpkins, and take advantages of stores open late to get some scary good deals.
