| Whether you’re a hopeless romantic or a heartbreaker, St. Charles’ newest festival, Once Upon a Valentine®: Stories for the Loved & Loveless, promises fun for all! This micro-festival blends history, fun, and spirited entertainment through an array of activities that embrace both the adoration and the playful disdain of Valentine’s Day traditions.
Make cards with the infamous king of romance, Casanova. Listen to Romeo & Juliet recite love sonnets. Test your bow & arrow skills at Cupid’s archery challenge. If these are too sappy for you, anti-Valentine’s Day activities have you covered. Release your frustrations through art therapy with famous jilted bride, Miss Havisham, get your mugshot taken with the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre gangsters, and hit a heart-shaped piñata with the six wives of Henry VIII. As you walk around Main Street, you’ll hear a mix of love ballads and breakup anthems sung by the festival’s a cappella singing groups: The Conversation Hearts and The Lonely Hearts Club.
